The writing of 50 Gems of South-West Wales was a great indulgence and a huge pleasure. I was asked to write about fifty Special Places in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and of course there were some difficult choices to make. How could I possibly reduce all the many Gems in a beautiful region to a mere fifty?

All the places I have chosen have interesting stories to tell which stretch throughout almost all of Welsh history. Visit wonderful Pentre Ifan in Pembrokeshire or Gwal y Filiast in Carmarthenshire and travel back instantly over 5,000 years. Visit the quarry where Stonehenge was born or Mydffai, the home of modern medicine. Look at the great castles of Pembroke or Carreg Cennan. See what links Carmarthen with the battle that brought an end to the Medieval Age. Visit the great estates of Hafod and Stackpole, look the site of early land speed records, examine Wales’ long relationship with the sea. Wherever you go you will be captured by the stories and entranced by the beauty that surrounds you.
50 Gems of South West Wales  is fully illustrated with over 90 colour photographs and some original and striking artwork, like the beautiful clay map pictured above.
