Swansea Then and Now – in Paperback

Then and Now Cover

I have received today copies of my book Swansea Then and Now which has been re-printed in paperback by History Press.  The original hardback edition was published in 2012.
There are no major changes to the text  – other than the addition of Matilda to the list of our grandchildren to whom the book has been dedicated. The cover price of the paperback edition is £14.99 – 96 pages, with 45 pairs of photographs comparing images from the past with the same place today.

You can find out more about the book on its own page on this website by clicking on this link – Swansea Then and Now

The publisher’s cover price has increased but you can buy it here on the website at the original price – £10.50 to include postage and packing.

If you would like to buy one then follow this link here to the How to Buy Page

With thanks to the History Press

Swansea Then and Now

I was pleased to see that the book reached number 4 in the Waterstone’s Top Ten Best Sellers just before Christmas! Clearly this year’s must-have present.

The comments I have received about the book have a common theme – that the archive pictures I have used show a much more interesting and attractive Swansea. The past seems to modern eyes much more comfortable and interesting. A simple and attractive world. Is this perhaps a comment on my photographic skills? Or does it merely reflect how much we have lost?

Book Signing

Off to Waterstones in Swansea tomorrow (Saturday 1 December 2012)  to sign copies of my books. Three will be available – Swansea Then and Now, Bloody Welsh History – Swansea, and Stories in Welsh Stone and of course they are ideal Christmas presents!

I am there between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm.

Had a good signing in W. H. Smiths last week and hoping for similar interest tomorrow.

On the Radio

My books and I have had a good couple of days. I had a fine turn out for my latest talk in Swansea Civic Centre on Saturday afternoon. A good and appreciative audience and I managed to sell a few books. They were especially interested in the mug shots of nineteenth century petty criminals

Swansea Then and Now also proved popular, especially as Christmas approaches!

I am going into Swansea Sound for an interview on Tuesday 23 October 2012. I will be on air at 11.00 am apparently.

A couple more talks booked too. I can also tell you that the next volume about Swansea Murder will be enriched by a  fantastic illustration from Charlotte Wood which she has composed for me.  It is beautiful.

New Websites

With the help and direction of Dan Gladwin, my son in law, two new websites are being developed for my local history books. One is Bloody Welsh History – Swansea and the other is called Swansea Then and Now.  The sites now exist. Over the next few weeks I shall have to add the content.
